People say that the news is always bad, and perhaps it is. But who knows what's going on in the Human News? Where do we find the state of ourselves as a culture? Now, the fine arts cannot cure cancer or control armies, but they remind us of what is so special about human life on earth. They capture beauty and truth for no functional reason. They encourage us to be more than clever animals that can live longer. Human News is the story that the fine arts is telling us about ourselves. It is a very old, very quiet story.
