via Instagram: #Paris #carousel. Study for another new painting. According to the wisdom of the internet, this one spins faster than the others around town. But I have to say it still looks pretty gentle. I love the glowing orbs around it. #tuileries #carnival #benjaminfreyart #watercolor #originalart . Love the wooden #horses

From Instagram: Idea for a new painting – title unknown. As @memoryartgirl said, the rain is just a good excuse to go to the museum (with @camille_gambini ๐Ÿ˜Š). As we were about to leave one gallery, I saw a girl engrossed in sketching and thought it was a beautiful idea for a painting. So here’s my study… #paris @museeorsay #benjaminfreyart #art #watercolorpainting #artoftheday #rainydays

Ferris Wheels

I’ve finally put together a decent gallery of my recent Ferris Wheel Paintings. These range from ones I’ve just completed this spring to ones I finished a few years ago so many of these are already hanging in peoples’s homes. But I love to do commissions, so if you fall in love with one of these, I’ll be happy to make a painting like it to fit your space!

A Great Collaboration in Greenville!

Last month I exhibited at a fantastic show (Artispere) in Greenville, SC and I collaborated with the show and Dapper Ink on some shirts to promote the exhibit. They came out great and they hand printed the shirts during the exhibit, which was a great demonstration of real screen-printing. I don’t know if they have any shirts left, you can certainly email or call them to find out, but they came out great.

The 2017 Festival T-shirt features original artwork “A New Perspective” by Ben Frey…

There’s also a great facebook live video of them actually printing the shirts…

Berlin’s Abandoned Amusement Park

“Riesenrad” 24×30 Mixed Media Drawing

This Ferris wheel stands in the abandoned Spreewald Amusement park in the former East Berlin. The park is fantastically dilapidated and full sized trees now grow through the rides. I visited the park last summer and have been working on a series of paintings based on the rides, the most impressive of which is this Ferris wheel.

Fresh Artwork for Fort Worth

It is an honor to have been asked to make the featured painting for this year’s Main Street Arts Festival poster. I really enjoyed coming up with the design and I ended up making two pieces because I couldn’t decide whether I liked the vertical or horizontal better. The show decided to go with a vertical design and I love how it turned out. I also really like how the horizontal companion artwork turned out:

Anyone in Texas this weekend (April 14-17) should definitely swing by Fort Worth and see the work in person (and pick up one of the posters if you’re so inclined). Here’s the poster image:
